He’s made a name for himself in shows like The Wire and Luther, as well as Marvel’s Thor film franchise, and now stars in the Fast and Furious spin-off, Hobbs and Shaw.
But Idris Elba revealed on Thursday that the moment he felt the most famous was when he hosted the Met Gala, where he was greeted by Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, and Rihanna.
Making an appearance on People’s Hot One’s segment, where he was made to eat spicy chicken wings while answering questions, the 46-year-old actor said: ‘I had Lady Gaga coming up to me, Rihanna, Beyoncé coming up to me, shaking my hand.
‘I felt super famous. And, Anna Wintour, bless her heart, she championed me as someone who should host it.’
The acclaimed British actor joked: ‘Half the people didn’t know who I was. They were like, “Who? Oh, OK, OK, you was on The Wire! Yeah, yeah, yeah. My dad’s seen that. It was great, apparently, great.”‘
Idris’ admission comes after he said during an appearance on The View on Tuesday that he fell in ‘love at first sight’ when he met his wife Sabrina.
Adding that he’s ‘the happiest [he’s] been in a long time’ now, Idris explained: ‘I went out on my only day off, true story, it was a Sunday night, I went to this party and there she was. The rest is history.’
Idris and Sabrina married in April in a breathtaking ceremony captured by British Vogue, with the former Miss Vancouver stunning in two exquisite dresses by Vera Wang.
With a ‘colours of the Souk’ themed dinner on Thursday night at the luxurious Amanjena resort and their extravagant nuptials on Friday, the three-day celebrations continued on Saturday with an all-white party at the Mandarin Oriental.
Idris met Sabrina in her home country of Canada in 2017, and became acquainted on the set of the drama film The Mountain Between Us.
Previously the Thor: Ragnarok actor was married to Hanne Norgaard, with whom he shares daughter Isan, 17.
He was then married to Sonya Nicole Hamlin, whom he divorced just four months later. Idris also shares a five-year-old son with ex Naiyana Garth.
